Education Online Medical Universities Physiology is the science concerned with the study of the dynamics of function of different human organs and systems. Anatomy is the science concerned about the gross structure of the human body as well as its development (Embryology). The modern study method implicated in our faculty is 'Regional Anatomy' in which every part or 'region' of the human body is studied alone including all its systems (nervous, circulatory, muscular, etc.). Biochemistry is the science dealing with the biochemical processes and reactions occuring inside the living cell. These reactions vary from pathways for creating energy upto pathways for synthesis and storage of proteins and hormones. In the first year, you get an introduction of the structure of biochemically important substances such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. Then you learn important concepts in the structure and function of enzymes, vitamines, genetic material, and others. You start the 1st year by 'Physical Chemistry' a REALLY boring subject, but it does not have the taste of real biochemistry, so don't hate biochemistry for it. In the second year, you learn important pathways such as Glycolosis, Kreb's cycle, fatty acid synthesis, synthesis of amino acids and their derivatives, etc. They are interesting if you dare to study! Histology is the science concerned with the study of the microscopic structure of different body tissues and its relation to function. Histology syllabus covers all body tissues in 2 years. Although this subject is light compared to other subjects, you must not neglect it in your study schedules and make sure you gain command of it because this will help you very much in Pathology, 3rd year. You will be instructed to draw a copybook containing practical slides with special colours. Please take this advice : do not postpone the copybook to the end of the year, as you'll have no time for it, besides, you can learn as you draw and you won't feel the burden of drawing 70+ drawings at one time. Histology Practical sections involves seeing microscopic slides. Do not get upset if you can't identify the slides, or can't memorize them. You'll have plenty of chance to do so in the revision sessions at the end of the year, but make sure you ATTEND the practical sections.
