A/Head,
Scholarship Department
Scholarship Department at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was established in 1974 illustrating the deep conviction of H.H. Sh. Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and H.H. Sh. Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Supreme Petroleum Council to use the oil wealth for the preparation of well educated generation for a promising future.
The Scholarship mission is to educate, train and prepare UAE National staff to take leading positions in the oil industry and as part of its commitment towards the process of Emiratization of jobs both for ADNOC Headquarter and the Operating Companies.
Academically gifted UAE secondary graduates are offered the opportunity to follow undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering and applied sciences at some of the most reputable academic institutions around the world mainly the USA, UK, Australia, Japan, and in the UAE at the Petroleum Institute, the UAE University and Higher College of Technology.
The first graduating class of 10 students was in 1979; while between 1979 and 1994 the Scholarship Program produced 325 graduates. Today the Scholarship Department supervises more than 600 students. Many of the present managers, engineers and supervisors in ADNOC and its Group of Companies are graduates of the Scholarship Program.
Scholarship Department
aims at introducing students to the majors most required by ADNOC. A recent study conducted by the ADNOC Recruitment Department proved that until the year 2009, ADNOC will suffer from a shortage of mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical and petroleum engineering graduates.
To be eligible for the Scholarship Program, students must obtain a high school certificate in the scientific stream with a total average of no less than 70% as well in all science subjects. They should also achieve at least 500/173 TOEFEL score in English, be medically fit and should successfully pass the scholarship program's interview.
On the selection of universities ADNOC relies on publications specialized in the assessment of universities such as "Barons book", "Education Times", "US news" and finally we chose the best 10% of those universities to send our students. In the
USA, there are 7 levels, i.e. "Most Competitive, "Very Competitive", "Highly Competitive", "Competitive", "Less Competitive", "Non-Competitive" and "Not Ranked". Also selected Universities must be accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research.
Scholars enrolled in the Scholarship Program will enjoy the following benefits: monthly stipends, allowances for health care, books and clothing, travel
tickets and computer and of course

ADNOC is proud to have invested in the education, training and development of UAE national staff for more than thirty years, thus enabling many of them to take their rightful place in the oil industry's multinational workforce. This is a tangible example on how right ADNOC has been in investing in the development of the national human resources as the Scholarship Program has provided interested nationals the opportunity to pursue their studies, have a stable income and a comfortable retirement.
Finally, ADNOC will continue to improve and enhance its Scholarship Program in order to support the development of present and future generations of national employees in ADNOC and its Group of Companies.
As part of its services to facilitate procedures, ADNOC has launched a web-site (www.adnocscholar.com) which provides all the necessary information about the program. The company is also planning to setup a toll free 800 telephone number to provide answers to all questions.
